Who Said You’re Too Old To Start A Business On The Internet?
Oh no! You’re over 50 so you must be too old to start a business on the internet, right? I mean, when you were born the internet didn’t even exist!
You probably didn’t have computers in your school. It’s only been since the mid-1990s, have we seen rise of near-instant communication by email as well as online forums, blogging, social network sites and, of course, online shopping sites.
Are you having a pity party with yourself because you think you’re too old? Are you on your death bed? If you’re not, you’re not too old too old to start a business on the internet and make a success online. Stop thinking of yourself as “old,” and replace that thought with “I’ve got the time and the wisdom to succeed.”
Am I Too Old To Start A Business On The Internet?
Success has nothing to do with age. It has everything to do with determination and faith in yourself. There’s really no minimum age to start a business on the internet and there’s certainly no maximum age. There are plenty of baby boomers (someone who was born between approximately 1946 to 1964) and older who are online and cashing in. It has nothing to do with when you were born.
When you first start out building your own internet business, it can be frightening and even seem impossible, no matter what age you are. It’s the old conundrum about how can you get experience without having experience. But, when you start an online business, you can make your own experience and prove your expertise with just a little work. And this is how you can do it.
Have A Business Plan
You know that you wouldn’t start out on a journey across the country without having a map. And when you starting a business on the internet it’s no different. You need a clear business plan. You have to know what you’re going to sell, who you’re going to sell it to and how you’re going to get your products or services into your marketplace. These are all things that you can learn how to do. You don’t even have to create your own products and services. You can sell products and services that have been created by other people and they’ll pay you a commission for every sale you make.
Why An Internet Business?
The number of people buying products and services online is growing every year. If you’ve never brought anything online, you’ll know somebody who has. This increase in online spending being shifted from bricks and mortar stores to the internet has created an amazing opportunity for people of all ages. Although many over 50s have discovered the world of the internet later in life, you’re not too old to start a business on the internet. The set up costs are low, the learning curve is quick and you can literally build a profitable internet business without any previous experience.
Free Checklist & Toolkit: How To Choose Your Online Niche
Building A Website Is Not Rocket Science
You may have concerns about the technical side of an online business. But if you can use a search engine to find something on the internet and send an email, then you’re ready to go. There’s plenty of help out there if you simply take the time to find it. There are forums and blogs, websites and videos which can bolster your faith in yourself and help you build a website much quicker than you think. Think of it like learning to drive a car. You learn how to drive the car, not how the car engine actually works with it’s four-stroke combustion cycle of intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust.
Provide Content Regularly For Your Audience
On your website, start a blog for your audience with content discussing the many issues that the audience has. It’s a great way to get traffic to your website and it’s also a great way to demonstrate your knowledge. You don’t have to be an expert in your chosen niche. You just have to know a little more than your target market and be willing to do some work to learn more.
And don’t think that every market is saturated. That’s likely the biggest excuse people use for not succeeding with an internet business. The market is not saturated and it’s primed for new ideas and new strategies from someone willing to take the time and effort to make it happen.
Write A Report or Ebook About A Problem
Write a brief report that addresses a problem and then offers solutions to the problem. If you write a report or two about individual problems your audience has, and put them on your website, you’ll be able to show your expertise even though you’re just starting out. You can even go one stage further and write an ebook. Writing an ebook and authorship is always a great way to show your expertise. Direct the ebook to your target audience and answer questions they may have. Address one problem and solve it and then you’ll get more respect that you do know what you’re talking about.
Make Checklists to Help Your Target Audience
If you know the types of things that your audience has questions about, you can create helpful checklists, cheat sheets or tip sheets that are available for view and/or download on your website or blog. A checklist is a great way to build a list of email subscribers. You can offer it for free in exchange for somebody’s email address.
Share Your Experiences
Technically, you’re are considered middle-aged. But you’re anything but middle-aged in mind, body and spirit. You’re certainly not too old to start a business on the internet. You have experience and knowledge that you can share. Social networks like LinkedIn, Facebook, and even forums and message boards are great places to answer other people’s questions in a way that highlights your expertise and knowledge. Blogs, websites, newspapers and magazines all want more content and will take well-written, expertly delivered articles. Some of these will even pay you for the content. Write originally for each and rely on your bio to send traffic to your website.
Set yourself apart from other marketers and stop telling yourself you don’t have a chance. People have different styles. Everyone has an audience who will relate to the way that they conduct their business. Remember that people by from people they know, like and trust. Believe in yourself and your audience will believe in you too. Author Danielle Steele, had three babies (two in diapers) and managed to write five novels before she had one accepted. Now, that’s determination.
