Is it Better to Focus on Your Strengths or Weaknesses?

As a business owner, it’s tempting to try to do everything that needs to be done in your business. However, because you’re only one person, and you have the same 24 hours in a day as everyone else, this is a huge mistake. To grow your business, you need to focus on your strengths and outsource your weaknesses. The reasons this works are plentiful.

If you focus on your strengths, you’ll be more likely to succeed, and you’ll even feel better about your success at the same time. That’s a win-win if there ever was one.

8 Reasons To Focus On Your Strengths

1. You’ll More Than Likely Succeed

Focus On Your StrengthsWhen you focus on things you can control and have confidence in doing, you’re going to be much more likely to succeed. Spending time trying to force yourself to learn a skill that doesn’t come naturally can lead to failure. But focusing on doing things that already come naturally tends to lead to more success.

2. You’ll Feel More Successful

When you’re doing things that seem simpler to you and come easier to you, it feels good doing it. For example, if you’re a naturally good singer, working on improving your singing voice is going to make you feel so much better than if you’re a terrible singer who can’t hold a tune trying to improve their singing voice.

3. Your Confidence Will Be Higher

When you do more of the things that you’re good at, it always makes you more confident. Think of the things that you love doing that come easy to you and think about how good you feel about doing it before, during, and after. This is the feeling you want to have no matter what you’re doing.

4. You’ll Feel Better about What You Do

We all feel better doing things we were born to do. Sometimes it’s hard to find out what the skill is that you were born with unless you start focusing on the things you already seem to be naturally drawn to. For example, if you are naturally drawn to do things that introverts do like write books, forcing yourself to be a public speaker might seem like the next step. But if you don’t feel good about it, what is the point?

5. You’ll Feel More Motivated

You know that there are tasks that you tend to procrastinate on doing, and sometimes you don’t do them at all. Those are the things you should outsource instead of doing yourself, and then you can focus on the things that motivate you. When you do that, willpower isn’t even needed.

6. You’ll Capitalize on Your Energy

When you do things you’re naturally good at, even when you need to practice and make it better, you’ll tend to have more energy. Mostly that’s because most of us like doing things we’re good at more than things we’re not good at, even if we need to practice.

7. It’s Easier to Enter a Flow State

When you’re doing what you love, it often seems like time isn’t passing. You’ll start your work, then suddenly realize hours have passed. This is wonderful and only happens when you’re doing things you enjoy doing and that you’re good at doing.

8. You’ll Experience Less Stress

No one wants to go to work and do things they hate, including business owners. While it’s true that you may need to do a few things you dislike doing and aren’t good at in the beginning, make it your goal to let go of everything you dislike – especially if you aren’t good at it and have no interest in learning. You’ll find your days are much more stress-free.
