What Happens If You Don’t Update Your Blog Enough?

Do you post too much or too little on your blog?

There are a number of dangers of posting too infrequently to your blog. The first is that your followers don’t find any value in subscribing to your blog, since you don’t often post new content and therefore they’ve already read everything they’re interested in.

Second, they don’t know whether you’re on vacation, taking a break or you’ve given up the blog altogether. They may even forget who you are by the time you start posting again! Going silent for weeks or months could mean it’s much more difficult to retain your subscribers and then pick up where you left off.

Another problem with not posting enough new content on your blog is that it’s difficult to rank higher in the search engines. This means that if you’re trying to make money from your blog, you’ll find it very difficult to do so. This is more of a problem for newer bloggers trying to establish themselves.

What Happens If You Update Your Blog Too Much?

While you might think it’s great to keep posting lots of content to your blog, people may find it overwhelming if you update your blog too much. This is particularly true if there is the option to subscribe to email alerts, which means they will get an email every time you post something new.

And, if you’re going onto your blog several times a day and writing short posts which aren’t relevant to many people or which don’t hold much value, people will immediately unsubscribe to stop getting all the notifications. Posting too much is also tiring for you, and you may find that quality suffers as a result.

So How Often Should I Blog Post?

The best days to blog and the frequency at which you update your blog content does, to a large degree, depend on your niche. For example, if it’s news-based then it makes sense to publish at least once per day. However, for most, ideal blog post frequency is around 1-2 times per week. The posts shouldn’t be short and insignificant, and should contain information that provides some form of value for your readers. And remember, this doesn’t always mean text. It could also mean video, or predominantly image-based posts if that works best for your niche.

Getting Fresh Ideas For Blog Posts

If you’re running a blog, coming up with fresh ideas week after week isn’t always easy. When you first start out, you may have hundreds of ideas that you can get to work on. But sooner or later, these will eventually run out and you’ll have to think of more. Constantly having a bank of ideas is great for your blogging productivity, so you’re never left wondering how to update your blog content. Here are 4 brainstorming ideas.

1. Ask Other People

Ask your friends, your family, or your current blog subscribers. You can get talking to anybody about the blog you’re running and see what they have to say. Or just see what comes up in conversation when you talk about your niche topic. Even if you don’t use their exact ideas, it’s a good way to pick up some new thoughts and concepts.

2. Create A Big List

Sit down and create a huge list of everything you can possibly think of that relates to your blog. If you’re running a blog on furniture, you can write about decorating many different venues. For example, wedding halls and churches, family homes and retirement homes, businesses and offices, shops and stores and everything in between. You can write about furnishing a place for the first time or buying new items. Give your readers ideas about how to do things, when to do things and what they can buy to do certain things. And don’t forget to start with the very basics, too. Even things that sound simple to you might be useful for readers who are complete beginners to your niche.

3. Read Other Blogs

You should never copy content from other blogs, but it’s a great way to get some more ideas. General ideas can’t be copyrighted, so unless you’re taking something word for word or using somebody else’s photographs, you don’t need to give anybody credit. You might not only get ideas about what to write about, but you could pick up some tips about how to structure your posts, how to make them more friendly or how to design the page to make it easier to read.

4. Use Books and Magazines

Books and magazines are great sources of blog post ideas. As with the previous tip, make sure you don’t copy anything – simply use the books and magazines as inspiration. Sometimes all it takes is scanning a table of content to get the juices flowing. Magazines are also great for figuring out what’s popular right now in your niche.
