The “right now” aspect of a live video stream creates a sense of urgency and scarcity in the minds of your prospects. They feel that if they don’t tune in when you’re broadcasting live, they’ll miss out on something.

1. Don’t Worry About What You Look Like

You’re probably going to want to look great for your live video stream. But you should also remember that there’s only so much you can do and that your audience isn’t actually that bothered about your appearance. The fact that the video is live will generally make your audience much more forgiving anyway, so that’s a positive way to look at live filming!

Remember to announce that you’re going live before you actually do it, especially if you’re going live with something important or exciting that you really want people to engage with. If you go live whenever you want, it might suit you but think about the timetables and schedules of your audience.

Rather than letting people know 10 minutes before that you’re about to go live, let them know the day or two before. This gives people who are interested in the video enough time to make plans and rearrange anything which might get in the way of missing your live streams on social media.

2. Know What You’re Going To Say

If you’re unsure about what you’re going to say during the video and you’re just blagging it as you go along, you’ll be worried and stressed as you’re filming. This may cause you to mess it up and feel annoyed and embarrassed by the outcome. You should explore different ways of creating a script so that you aren’t reading off a piece of paper but at the same time you aren’t struggling to fill the time either.

3. Practise Beforehand

Live filming is like many other things – you need to practise beforehand in order to get it right. This is particularly true if you don’t have much experience taking part in video (especially a live video stream), or you don’t have a lot of confidence speaking in public or before an audience.

You can practise what you’re going to say. Most importantly, know how you’re going to start the video and how you’re going to end it. One of the key benefits of live video is getting engagement from your audience. Will you ask your audience for their opinions during your video? Will you enter each person into a prize draw? Do you have something to announce that your audience would be excited to discover and join in with?

You need to give people a reason to join your live video and watch the content that you’re creating. Let people know about the general content of your live video when you tell your followers you’ll be going live. But don’t give too much away or nobody will watch!

4. Make Sure You Have Everything You Need

You’re all set to go and then you remember that you haven’t got an important item that you need for your video. Maybe it’s part of a demo you’re doing on the live video, or maybe you meant to bring a stand for your phone (or a selfie stick). Before you go live, make a point of checking everything that you have and then giving yourself time to fill any gaps in your equipment.
