How To Write An eBook Without Losing Your Mind

No Time To Write An eBook?

The number one excuse internet business owners and bloggers give for not bothering to write an ebook is that they don’t have enough time. They are already too busy.

If you have an online business you’ve probably thought about writing an ebook for profit. Authors are perceived as intelligent people. An ebook helps to establish you as an authoritative expert in your field and once written, ebooks you sell online though your website can provide passive income for years to come. You do the work once and you can sell the same ebook over and over again.

Even the busiest people have more than enough time over 365 days to write several ebooks, much less a single one. And that is because writing an ebook takes nothing but time!

Everybody has the same 24 hours in each day.

We’re all looking for new ways to become more productive. It seems that in this day and age as an online entrepreneur there are simply too many distractions that we have to face on a regular basis. Everyone is given the same amount of time each day, yet few people find a way to actually use it in a good way.

Because we’re constantly checking our social media profiles, surfing the web, checking email and updating our website, it becomes easy to lose focus on what we should be doing to generate income. People buy ebooks from online business owners they trust, admire and respect. As long as you develop a strong relationship with your audience first, and provide them lots of usable, free value, you’ll have a marketplace that will willingly pay you good money for more information that solves a big problem in their lives.

Stop Making Excuses

People often tend to blame everything and everyone that’s around them for preventing them from writing an ebook for profit. If you’re constantly coming up with excuses for not to write an ebook, then the only person you can blame is yourself. Most times, the excuses that you make up for not doing something aren’t even real.

You say that you don’t have the time? Start by writing every time you have 10 or 15 minutes of free time. This is what Harry Potter author JK Rowling did for the first book in that series. Plenty of other successful authors, of both ebooks and physical books, have done the same thing. Stop making excuses and start writing, and the efforts you make in those little chunks of time will eventually add up to a completed ebook you can sell online.

Eliminate Time Thieves

Time thieves are basically activities that you take part in when you want to waste time. It may be scrolling endlessly through the timeline on your social media accounts or it might be watching TV. Eliminating them from your life will automatically help you improve your productivity and give you more writing time.

Now, this doesn’t mean that you should forget about watching TV ever again or that you need to delete your social media accounts. It simply means that you should take part in these activities only after you’ve accomplished writing a few paragraphs or even a chapter.

How Long Should An eBook Be?

There is an old saying about books in general: “A bad book can’t be short enough, and a good book can’t be too long.”

In other words, your ebook should not be a single word longer than it needs to be. Deliver all of the information you possibly can, and use no extra fluff or filler. Generally speaking, ebooks that people pay for are expected to be short if you’re solving a problem or teaching a “how to” process.

In most cases, for bloggers and online business owners, ebooks will sell for somewhere between $7 and $27. This means that your customers are not expecting a long ebook. They want short, quick, easy to implement information that they can put into action right away. Explain the benefits of the process you are going to teach. Then teach the process, then add a summary or conclusion. Different markets and interests will require different lengths. Usually, somewhere between 5,000 words and 20,000 words is a good ebook length for information marketing purposes.

Master Time Management

Of course, just because you stopped wasting your precious time on nonsense doesn’t mean that you’ll instantly know how to write an ebook fast. You’ll still need to learn a lot about how to properly manage your time.

For example, if you’re a person that performs well under pressure, then you should leave less time for the most important tasks. Although this may seem counterintuitive, it will actually help form a habit of completing anything in a very short time period. This skill will help you master the art of being productive.

Find Pockets Of Time

Know that you’ll never be able to perform at your peak all day. You only get about two to four hours a day when your energy levels are maxed out. This is the time when you should be trying to finish everything that you have to do on that particular day. You’ll need to find the part of the day when you usually reach your peak and use it to your advantage.

Trying to work or write 16 hours a day won’t really make you more productive. Stop looking for huge blocks of time. Instead of trying to find an entire day to spend writing, find 15, 30 and 60 minute blocks of free time in your schedule. JK Rowling found “stolen pockets of time”, in her own words, to write Harry Potter. She often wrote on the train to and from work, in cafes, and even on napkins. She is well known for advising writers to write whenever they have a few minutes of free time.
