Why Is Content Marketing Important For Online Business?
Content marketing, also known as attraction marketing, is the concept of producing and distributing relevant and useful subject material to appeal to, acquire, and connect with a specific target audience.
Put simply, it is the skill of communicating with your customers and prospects without selling. Rather than trying to sell your products or services, you provide your prospective buyer with information and knowledge. The basis of content marketing is that if you provide consistent and beneficial information to potential buyers, they will inevitably become loyal and regular customers.
Traditionally, marketing sells by sending information to people. This can be in the form of brochures, direct mail, email or advertising. This is known as ‘interruption marketing’ and it’s the marketer who ‘connects’ first.
Things are a little different online though. People come to your website to find information, so the visitor starts the connection. And you have to meet their need for information before you can market to them.
Here are a few things to keep in mind as you create your content marketing strategy:
Keep visitors on your website
The primary objective with your website content marketing strategy is to keep people on your website and not to drive them away. You have to make it clear how your online business opportunity or products can benefit your customer. Offer them a free newsletter, report or a video course that demonstrates how your product or service can be of benefit to them.
What do your website visitors want?
You only have about 10 seconds to persuade a visitor that your website deserves a closer look. A recent study from Microsoft Research found that first 10 seconds of a website visit are crucial to the user’s decision to stay. The secret is to online content marketing is figuring out what your prospects want and then giving it to them.
Keep it simple
Reading is the main thing that people do on websites, but many people try to read as little as possible on most websites they visit. Keep your website design simple so that visitors can navigate easily between the pages and find what they are looking for. If the website is confusing and complicated, they will leave and not come back.
Visitors come to a website to do something or to get answers to a question. Make sure you give your website visitors the information they want as quickly and easily as possible. They do not want to be distracted by unnecessary information. Websites crammed with random pictures or unexplained links do appear unprofessional and visitors have no idea what they’re looking at.
Be professional but be friendly
The text on your website pages should be written like a conversation. Think of the questions your readers will ask, and answer those in your copy. Use short sentences, and keep it conversational. Show that you are a person and your business actually has somebody behind it.
Web content marketing is about keeping your tone informal and professional. Writing informally is not about talking down to your readers, it is writing so people can understand your content and they will want to come back for more. Remember, that if users cannot find what they are looking for on your website, they will go elsewhere.
